My journey - Shontell Fiet

My journey began with volunteering at a street children’s home in Cape Town, which sparked a deep passion for supporting vulnerable children and families. This early experience led me to work with families in Zambia, where I gained invaluable insight into the diverse challenges parents and children face across different contexts. These formative years shaped both my professional path and my commitment to meaningful, long-term change. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work and am an internationally accredited Parent Coach. Qualifications that ground my work in both evidence-based practice and practical, real-world application. Today, I continue to collaborate with schools and NPOs, drawing on this experience to uplift and empower families and children in need.

“Supporting Families for Over 20 Years.”

I started my private practice as a Counselling Social Worker (BSW, MSW) in 2010, specialising in child therapy. Over the years, I’ve worked across private practice, schools, and non-profit organisations, all with a strong focus on supporting children and strengthening family systems. Through this work, I came to realise that the most effective way to help children is to support their parents too. This understanding naturally led me to focus on Family Therapy and Parent Coaching.

I am passionate about helping individuals and families move from pain or confusion to clarity, connection, and joy. For me, success is not about perfection, but about increased self-awareness, deeper relationships, and ways of living that genuinely work. As a wife and mother of three adult children, I know first-hand that relationships are our greatest teachers. My professional training, combined with lived experience, allows me to support families in creating lasting and meaningful change.

My Philosophy and How I Work

Collaboration

Parents, teachers, and children are partners in this process. My work is based on collaboration, not judgement, to support each child.

Emotional Safety

Whether working with a child, parent, or group, I create a space where people can speak honestly and feel respected and supported.

Growth at Every Stage

Children grow, families grow, and so do we. I believe in teaching skills that support lifelong emotional resilience and growth at every stage.

Compassion First

Every family arrives with a story. I approach each one with empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to understand before anything else.

Family-Centred

Real change happens when the whole family system is supported. I believe in strengthening relationships, not just treating symptoms.

Real-World Tools

Support must work in daily life, not only in a session. I offer guidance that is simple, doable, and grounded in proven therapeutic practice.
